# How linki works

Using linki takes a few minutes and almost everything happens on your phone.

## Step by step

1. **Choose your destination and plan** at [linkiglobal.com/en/destinations](https://linkiglobal.com/en/destinations).
2. **Pay** on the site.
3. **Check your email:** within minutes you normally receive a QR code with the installation instructions. You can also find them in [My eSIMs](https://linkiglobal.com/en/user/esims).
4. **Install the eSIM** before you travel or when you arrive. You need an internet connection (for example, wifi) to install it.
5. **Activate it when you arrive.** An installed eSIM does not use data until it is activated: your plan runs from the moment the phone connects to a network at your destination.

## Good to know

- Your regular SIM stays active for calls and text messages. The linki eSIM is for data only.
